Hugga sleep support system supineAn innovative team have won an exclusive contract to supply an inventive support system aimed to help adults and children with complex disabilities during sleep.

Manufactured in Manchester the Hugga and Snugga can help to provide comfort and support to those who spend several hours a day in bed.

Manchester born, James Leinhardt is heading the production team who have come up with a ground-breaking way of sealing the support units so that they can be used in the hospital and care home environments.

The new sleep system is different from what’s currently on the market because of its multi-functional supports which can be used for both back and side lying which makes it much more affordable than other systems. It is also very easy to use and re-position an individual which is why it has been so well received by care teams.

The Hugga and Snugga are comprised of 11 support units which are placed around an individual to align their body which are secured using a Velcro sheet.

James said ‘it is essential in hospital environments for the sleep system to adhere to strict infection control regulations and accommodate multi-use between patients and we are delighted to say that the Hugga and Snugga can do this and so much more’

The original inspiration came with the help of 2 experts in the field and was supported by James’ partner Anthony Mitchell who heads the team in Yorkshire.

‘We have had several prototypes before finally achieving the multi-use model. We have tried and tested them on a number of clients who have shown improved comfort, better sleeping patterns and improved functional ability.’

‘It has been quite a journey to get the product right but we are now excited that we have a sleep system that can provide adults and children with the support and comfort required to give them the greatest quality of life possible.

I am a strong advocate of innovation but to be part of something so rewarding and life changing is something I am very proud of’.
